wheelchair challenge cup: edinburgh giants
Match Report written by Hornets Wheelchair Team Assistant Coach, Martin.
BETFRED WHEELchair challenge cup: round of 16
The match versus Edinburgh was on paper a very intriguing game and one where the Hornets knew they would be up against it but there is a good belief within the squad that anything is possible.
We went into the game fresh and confident we could put pressure on, but things started to go wrong within 10 mins there was a few errors to our game that Edinburgh capitalised on.
The game was fast paced and as Rochdale tried to get a foothold Edinburgh seemed to get the bounce of the ball in the early exchanges scoring 3 tries in the opening 20.
This pattern continued through the 1st half and at HT the score was 32-0 in favour of Edinburgh.
A couple of changes made to the Hornets Starting Line up gave the opportunity for a debut for Marley Bellamy who showed great pace in the 2nd half. Even when Edinburgh put a few more tries on the board the Hornets never gave up and eventually got on the scoreboard when Marley showed great pace and agility to score with Kyran Holt slotting the conversion.
Indeed it was the Hornets who finished the game the stronger with Kyran crashing over but then unfortunately missing the conversion. Another great move by the Hornets was finished off by Tom Graves but the official called offside but if anything it was marginal.
Final Score was Hornets 10 Edinburgh 66.
The coaches were pleased in the way they finished the game strongly, this was a great experience for the squad playing Super League opposition in the Challenge Cup.
Now back to business when the league season starts which is what the goal is this season. Thanks for all the support on the day it's much appreciated!
