FUNDING SEcured for wild at the hive
We’re excited to announce that our Wild at The Hive project has been given the green light thanks to new funding from Action Togethers Climate Co-operators Fund! This initiative will transform the green space around The Hive at Balderstone Park into a vibrant, biodiverse area that everyone in the community can enjoy.
Although the park is surrounded by grass and trees, it currently lacks plant diversity. With this project, we’ll change that by introducing pollinator‑friendly flowers and plants to attract bees, butterflies, and other wildlife. The result will be a colourful, welcoming environment that supports nature and creates a richer experience for visitors.
What’s Planned
🛠️ Upcycling & Building – Wooden pallets will be repurposed into raised planters during winter build sessions at The Hive.
🌸 Planting Together – In spring and summer, HMR Circle’s over‑50s members will join us to plant pollinator‑friendly species, making the space more ecologically rich.
🎨 Creative Plaques – Older adults and young people will co‑design educational plaques to explain what’s been planted and why biodiversity matters.
🤝 Community Sessions – Practical build days, planting events, and creative workshops will bring people together to shape the space.
We’re grateful for the support that has made this project possible, and we can’t wait to see The Hive’s surroundings come to life with colour, creativity, and buzzing wildlife.
