FINAL PRE-SEASON FIXTUREs AGAINST SALFORD: FIRSTs and reserves

Last Sunday saw a double header for our reserves and first team at Kingsway.

First up were the Reserves playing their first full game of 2026 . Salford were the opponents in both games, a very tight game throughout the first half with great defence being shown by both teams and at half time it was a level game 12-12 with Russ and Rab scoring the tries for the Hornets Rab also slotting home 2 conversions.

The second half started in a similar fashion with trys being traded at both ends after a very entertaining second half The Hornets had secured victory 34-32, the 2nd half try scorers were Paul with 3 and Russ adding another one to go with his 1st half one.

Conversions were added by Rab x 2 and Finn with 1. Fantastic game to watch and the reserves can now build on this platform for the season ahead.

Next up was the 1st team unfortunately we had 3 players missing from the squad for this game but it was still a strong Hornets team. They went through some set moves we had worked on over the past few weeks in training and it was a very fast pace and at the break the Hornets were leading 42 -4.

Credit to Salford who never gave up and scored some nice trys in the 2nd half. But the final score ended up at 66 - 20 in favour of the Hornets with Callum Young top try scorer with 6 then Kyran Holt with 5 and a try a piece for Paul and Wes.

Great games and the Reserves now look forward to the season starting in April but the first team first have a last 16 game in the Betfred Challenge Cup ko 1pm at Kingsway School Rochdale on Saturday 28th March against super league side Edinburgh Giants. Free entry for spectators, come down and cheer your Hornets on in a massive game for the club .
