HORNETS WHEELCHAIR TEAM PRE-SEASON SUCCESS

Match Report written by Hornets Wheelchair Team Assistant Coach, Martin.

Pre-season friendly with Swinton Lions: Venue Cardinal Langley, Date 7th Feb 26, KO 3pm

Our first pre-season friendly took place after our squad season launch at the Hive. We had around 15 players available and ready to go. We aim to field a reserve side this year alongside our 1st team who are competing in the National Championship this year.

We fielded a starting side of reserves trying to give as much game time to everyone. Then made multiple subs throughout the game, a really strong defensive stint from the starting 5 kept Swinton pointless during the 1st half. Stuart Bellamy scoring 2 x Tries and Paul Holt scoring 1 with Marley and Finn converting one each to make it 16-0 at HT.

The Hornets ended that 1st half and started the 2nd half with a slightly stronger line up than our starting 5, with Marley extending our lead before a majority of the Hornets Championship players were substituted onto the field. Some fantastic play resulted in a Kyran Holt hat-trick and doubles for both Wes Groot and Tom Graves, before they made space again to let newer players get more game time alongside veteran player Kyran Holt.

With Riley scoring a try and Rab Heywood Singh getting himself on the scoreboard with a beautiful conversion off the touch line, the Hornets kept control of the game from start to finish.

All in all, it was a good steady start for the squad and was very pleasing for the coaches . Final Score Hornets 64 - 0 Swinton.

Thanks to Swinton Lions for the game, we wish them all the best for the season.

We had a healthy crowd in to watch and had Roch Valley Radio down to see our progress. This season will be tough, but we have set targets for both teams and hopefully we can have another successful season.
